Responsibilities
Reporting to the Nurse Manager , and with supervision from the Charge Nurse or the Registered Nurse, the Unit Secretary is responsible for coordinating patient flow on the unit; processing patient orders; preparing and disassembling patient charts, preparing forms and documents required for patient care; communicating unit-related and/or patient-related needs to other departments and healthcare team members; requesting and obtaining supplies and equipment; answering the phone and greeting visitors; providing clerical support to the unit, and other duties as required.
Qualifications
Education: High school graduate. Business school certificate or Associate Degree in Business preferr! ed.
Certification: Certification as a Healthca! re Unit Coordinator (HUC) preferred.
Experience: Recent experience as a HUC or Secretary in a healthcare related environment such as a hospital, nursing home, ambulatory center or physician office.
Skills: Ability to multi-task and interact favorably (present professionally and work in harmony) with staff, patients and visitors in a manner that instills confidence while performing the duties in support of the nursing unit. Proficient in speaking, reading and writing English; familiar with medical terminology and computer clinical documentation systems; competent using computer email and calendars; basic skills using the internet and Microsoft Office. Able to prioritize multiple tasks and to seek appropriate assistance when needed.
