ACTUAL JOB TITLE: CLINICAL RESEARCH NURSE.

Position Purpose • Responsible for ensuring clinical trials are conducted in accordance with scientific, medical, and ethical principles, and within regulatory requirements/guidelines. Responsible for volunteer safety & accurate interpretation and execution of research protocols including multiple study activities such as: nursing assessments of physiologic response to drug administration; administration of study medication; cardiac monitoring; basic nursing care & emergency interventions, collection and electronic and/or written documentation of data. Assist in the design as it relates to feasibility, implementation, and reporting of clinical trials.

  • Organizational Relationships: • Reports to Lead./Supervisor of Research Techs and Nurses and/or Director of Operations Resources Managed (budget and FTEs): • Determine the necessary materials required for ! study conduct, as appropriate Duties: • The major duties and! responsibilities will include but are not limited to: - Safety monitoring of all study activity for assigned Protocol Document volunteer's activities while involved in assigned protocols - Administer study medication in accordance with protocol - Collaborate with study team to execute protocol. - Monitor & document study subject compliance - Record adverse events & update as appropriate - Facilitate compliance of study subjects to protocol activities - Maintain accuracy, accessibility, & confidentiality of volunteer records and reports - Demonstration of communication skills & general behaviors which facilitate positive attitudes & trust in the volunteer populations toward participation in Clinic research - Monitor & summarize clinical data by reviewing printouts & tables, looking for trends, interpreting abnormal lab parameters & adverse events, writing clinical summaries for clinical trials & maintenance of the formal Unit study file - Assist in responding to & resolving! all queries specific to subject data collection - Maintain competency to assist with the execution of general technical activities (collection & processing of biological samples, vital sign & other physiological & measurements) & those study activities requiring emergency nursing intervention - Serve as a lead nurse on a protocol, as appropriate - Review and provide input, to designated clinic team contact, on assigned synopses, protocols, and ICDs as available.
Training & Education Preferred: • Bachelors Degree preferred • Diploma or Associate's degree in Nursing, and/or Bachelor's degree (B.S. /B.S.N) with valid CT nursing licensure. - Minimum of 2 years general medical-surgical nursing experience including competency in phlebotomy techniques and performing electrocardiograms. - Must have current ACLS certification. - Clinical Research Experience preferred. - Superior written and verbal skills are essential; including the ability to communicate in e! asily understandable language complicated research principles. - Must h! ave the ability to function as an effective team member in diverse workgroups to accomplish business objectives. - Must have a working knowledge of computers, medical conditions, research techniques, and the application of clinical research. • Highly Desirable: Drug development or phase 1 experience. Prior Experience Preferred • Minimum of 2 years general medical-surgical nursing experience including competency in phlebotomy techniques and performing electrocardiograms.

Emergency interventions are appropriate, immediate, and demonstrate excellent assessment skills and standard of care. • Successful study conduct of all Clinical Researc! h Unit studies in accordance with ethical, legal, and moral standards, Good Clinical Practices (GCPs) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), Clinical Sciences and Clinical Research Unit management requests, and PGRD drug development goals. • Contribute to the business needs of WWCROP’s through the fulfillment of the essential functions specified in this role. • Demonstrates effective communication with management group and external customers. • Demonstrate ability and flexibility to work alternative or additional hours (weekends/evenings/nights) to provide study activity coverage. • Working knowledge of computers and clinical research data systems and associated issues/risks.

MUST HAVE 3-5 YEARS RELATED EXPERIENCE.

MOST CRITICAL: The research nurse must be ACLS certified, have good nursing skills, able to do ECG’s, vital signs,learn other procedures, assess subjects for adverse events, administer study medication. Willing to work in a cli! nic (ie Hospital setting).

There may be times when the nurse m! ay need to escort a subject to a local physician’s office or hospital (please have this built in to the bill rate if necessary as this will not be expensible).
