Port Protection Officer

About this opportunity:
Port Protection Officers are part of the Marine Team reporting directly through to our Security Manager, based in Port Chalmers.
As a Port Protection Officer, you are the first point of contact for all visitors to our Port, both land and waterside. They are responsible for providing various security, marine, customer services and safety duties associated with the day to day running of our Gatehouse.
Some of the key tasks of the role include, but are not limited to, providing customer service to visitors entering the Port; maintaining security measures and providing security response as required; undertaking regular safety and security inspections/audits of our Port facilities; providing gatehouse to gangway safety shuttle escorting services, and supporting Marine with duties such as harbour traffic control, ship movement scheduling, and liaising with shipping agents.
In addition to these tasks, you will have the opportunity to assist the Security Manager with other tasks or special projects as required.

- Excellent communication skills and a willingness to collaborate with others
- Proven customer service experience and strong interpersonal skills to work with varied stakeholders and maintain close working relationships
- A demonstrated strong work ethic, availability, attendance, timekeeping skills, and a team player
- Intermediate level of Microsoft Office skills and demonstrated administrative skills
If you are successful, you will be required to:
- Obtain a Port Facilities Security Officer qualification
- Obtain a VHF Radio Operators Certificate
- Operate Restricted Radar
- Provide emergency first aid care at medical incidents
Hours of work for the role is a 4 days/4 off/4 nights/4 off rolling shift pattern, 12hr shifts, an average of 42 hours per week.

Heads up:
- A full clean NZ Drivers licence is essential
- You must be able to pass Ministry of Justice, ACC checks and a medical which includes a drug and alcohol test as part of our recruitment process
