VA Connecticut Healthcare System was officially formed in 1995 with the integration of the VA medical centers in West Haven and Newington. We serve veterans in Connecticut and southern New England. The West Haven facility is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level I Facility. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology and a renowned research program. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary, acute, tertiary and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics and extended care. A Wom! enÂ's Health Center is located at the West Haven campus.
Newington is an ambulatory care center that provides primary and specialty care. DUTIES:
VA Connecticut Healthcare System is currently seeking a Hospital Education Specialist/Coordinator. The incumbent executes position responsibilities that: demonstrate leadership, experience and creative approaches to improving patient care service through coordination of hospital education services. This involves developing, planning, monitoring, implementing, and evaluating hospital education programming in the areas of medical/surgical, psychiatry, geriatrics and extended care,

and ambulatory care. Additional major duties include organizational analysis and data validation, He/she is accountable for adhering to established policies, standards for care and standards of practic! e, for demonstrating leadership and accomplishments in developing and i! mplementing programs to educate staff on standards of care, competency development, and improvement in the delivery of patient care and other hospital education assignments.

Tour of Duty:
Generall Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm with need for great flexibility to proivide for the edicuational needs of the hospital staff on a 24/7 basis

Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position

Grade and salary for these positions will be determined by the Nurse Professional Standards Board (NPSB).

Nurses appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d).

RN; BSN or BS in related field, Masters degree preferred.

(a)

The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing.

In these programs, students are given a certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX and should submit this certification to VA prior to appointment.

Students do not earn a BSN, but receive a MSN degree upon completion of course work.

A copy of the MSN transcript must be provided to VA.

Bridge programs that confer a masterÂ's degree also fully meet the education requirement, even though a BachelorÂ's Degree is not awarded.

(b)

In cases o! f graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of c! urrent, full, active, and unrestricted registration (see paragraph 2a(3)) will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
