DUTIES:
Tour of Duty: 4:00pm-10:30pm- Monday-Friday (Part-Time 30 hours per week/60 hour bi-weekly)

Sala! ry will be prorated based on the number of hours worked.

MSAÂ's at the full performance level of GS-5 are responsible for scheduling appointments, including interpreting and verifying provider referrals in accordance with VHA national scheduling guidelines, canceling, re-scheduling patient's appointments, verifying and updating demographics and insurance information. Screen incoming calls to determine whether those calls can be appropriately handled by the Medical Support Assistant or if they need to be directed

to

other team members thus improving responsiveness to Veterans questions and concerns. This program is a clinical and administrative network designed to provide fast responsive help to Veterans seeking Dental care. Referring areas include but are not limited to Eligibility, Primary Care, and CBOCs. The MSA's role will reflect practices of independent decision-making, coordination of patient dental care needs and direct problem resolution ! as appropriate.

Principal

Duties and Responsibilit! ies:
•

Answer and/or direct telephone calls and taking messages. Greet, interview, process and assist patients and families; resolves issues accurately and timely and follow-up as necessary to ensure satisfactory resolution

•

Performs data entry and correspondence

•

Receives and sorts incoming mail

•

Communicates with nurses and physicians to obtain and update information

•

Utilizes a variety of office automation equipment and software. Transmits EKGs at the beginning, during and end of tour

•

Manages patient check in and ensures check out

•

Prints and completes open encounters

•

Processes all emergency and non-emergency transfers to other facilities, Including private sector

•

Answers questions and provide information on office policy and procedure

•

Resolves problems regarding schedulin! g and provider Instructions

•

Gathers and compiles statistics for necessary reports

•

Performs Inventories of equipment and supplies; enter station supply orders:

•

Check all rooms to replenish commonly

used

items

•

Recognize and react on STAT and emergency orders by notifying appropriate

clinical

staff

•

Schedules appointments through VISTA according to the VHA national scheduling guidelines.

•

Verifying and updating demographics and insurance Information

•

Performs basic eligibility, co-pays and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage

•

Updates and troubleshoots Emergency Department Information System tracking board (EDIS)

•

Interprets and transfers a variety of physician orders for patient examinations, consultations, therapy, tests, diets, x-rays, treatme! nt and activities to a high variety of forms, quickly and accurately
•

Serves as an alternate timekeeper

•

Must have a basic knowledge of medical terminology

(a) Exper! ience or Education: None beyond the basic requirements.

GS-4 MSA (Devevelopment level)

Experience or Education:
One year of experience in clerical or office work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position;

OR

Two years of education above high school. (Must submit a copy of transcripts, if qualifying on education).

GS-5 MSA (Full Performance Level)

Experience or Education

: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-4 grade level

OR

Four years of education above high school.

Perferred Experience

Ability to operate computerized programs and databases in order to enter, modify and retrieve sensitive information/data into or from electronic medical records, scheduling systems and/or reports

  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

:

Employee need to be mobile because the job requires sitting, standing, walking, and bending, as well as typing, answering the telephone, filing, etc. Position requires many trips daily from the employee's desk to other areas of the Unit and sometimes about the medical center. A moderate degree of lifting up to 25lbs is required in processing supplies. !
