Division Counsel, APAC [South Korea]


 

Responsibilities/Main Activities:
We are seeking a mid-level lawyer to join our APAC Law Department and assist with legal and contracts matters in Korea and with potential opportunities to work on matters across the APAC region.

This role will be based in Korea and report to the APAC Regional Division Counsel located in Singapore. Hexagon’s PPM division offers a dynamic and fast paced working environment, and the opportunity to work collaboratively on high-profile regional and global projects across multiple industries. Ownership and responsibility for customer accounts will be encouraged and supported by senior management.

This position will manage the commercial caseload throughout the region, including drafting and negotiating software licensing and maintenance agreements, consulting agreements, reseller agreements, SaaS and hosting agreements and subcontracts.

Responsabilities

  • Work closely with Sales, Finance, Delivery and technical SMEs in preparing responses to competitive tenders;
  • Assist with the negotiation of regional and global framework agreements and strategic alliance agreements;
  • Ensure customer contracts comply with company policies and local laws and regulations;
  • Communicate with customers, vendors and/or service providers as necessary to resolve contract issues;
  • Assist with the implementation and management of the APAC licence compliance program;
  • Conduct legal and compliance training seminars for both the internal sales force and support teams and the regional distributors;
  • Add value throughout the contract management lifecycle, including briefing the Delivery Team on unusual contract terms and obligations, managing contract variations and identifying and escalating legal issues in a timely manner to internal stakeholders;
  • Provide pragmatic, quality and timely advice as and when required to facilitate new business initiatives

Qualifications and Experience Required:
  • University Bachelor Degree
  • Korea Bar Qualification Certificate
  • Experience, Skills & Ability
  • Industry experience in law practice and/or multinational corporation in-house legal function, ideally in a technology services organization of four (4) to eight (8) years;
  • Familiarity with legal and regulatory requirements in Korea and preferably Japan and South East Asia;
  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills
  • Ability to collaborate with and enable the business while maintaining integrity and mitigating key commercial risks;
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks effectively and meet deadlines;
  • Protect the organisation’s brand, reputation and interests in all customer, supplier and third-party contracts;
  • Keep abreast of legal developments affecting Korea and APAC region;
  • Sound judgment and business acumen;
  • Enthusiastic and driven;
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Outlook, Excel, SharePoint and PowerPoint;
  • Ability to travel for customer negotiations and other engagements;
  • English and Korean language skills to business and legal standard required.
  • Other language skills are highly desirable but not essential.

  • Review/draft agreements within required timeframes, with limited supervision and in accordance with internal contracting standards

  • Augment and improve the APAC legal precedent bank;
  • Improve the APAC contract management and legal reporting procedures.
