License to Practice Psychology DUTIES:
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday schedule to be negotiated, with expectation for 4 hours of 24 hours to occur on Saturdays (Sat component of position would begin by July 1, 2013)

Newington Campus

The incumbent will have clinical and programmatic activities subsumed under this position are conducted as part of a p! rogram designed for neuropsychological evaluations under the direction of the Associate Chief, Psychology Service (Newington Campus), through the Chief, Psychology Service and the Director, Mental Health Care Line. The goal of this program is to provide assessment and collaborative mental health services with respect to addressing the mental health needs of veterans with a neuropsychological emphasis. For the present posting, we are seeking a full-time psychologist with a background in clinical neuropsychology.

Clinical Responsibilities :

  • Provides a full range of diagnostic services, mostly including neuropsychological and psychological assessments and using the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care. This responsibility will primarily involve services at the Newington campus.
  • Performs evaluations for veterans with a variety of psychological conditions including but not limited to neuropsychological prob! lems, PTSD, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and personality disorder! s. These evaluations utilize a comprehensive diagnostic interview, review of available records, collateral contact when available, and a battery of psychological and neuropsychological measures.
  • Responsible for timely completion of all clinical charting and documentation required by the Medical Center or Healthcare System, as appropriate.
  • Consult with and serve as a resource for other professional personnel concerning the need for and development of psychological and neuropsychological services. This may include consultation for research protocols.
Academic/Teaching/Training:
1. May hold faculty appointment at affiliated university, Yale and University of Connecticut.

2. Provides clinical supervision to various disciplines and levels of training to include predoctoral and postdoctoral psychology trainees.

3. Involved in Psychology Training Program and Training Committee.

4. Actively involved in the training ! of medical students, medical and psychiatric residents, nursing students, fellows and other graduate or post-graduate trainees, as appropriate.

5. Provides leadership guidance and consultation to staffs of units to which assigned.

Research/Program Evaluation

1. Oversees the establishment of program monitors and outcome measurements within programs assigned using a data-driven quality assurance processes.

2. Plans and oversees the completion of personal research programs and/or collaborations in research programs related to area of interest.

3. Presents outcome data and research results at VA and regional or national scientific or professional meetings, as assigned.

4. Prepares and/or assists in the preparations of RFPÂ's and grant proposals, as assigned.

QUALIFYING GRADE ELEMENTS:
  • Doctoral degree in ! clinical or counseling psychology from APA Accredited Graduate Program ! in an area of training consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. This position is specifically targeting a clinical neuropsychologist.
  • Internship in professional psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association.
  • At least one or more years of clinical experience comparable to what one would get in a VA setting, either by post-doctoral employment or one or more years of employment as a psychologist. The ideal candidate will have post-doctoral training meeting board certification criteria (ABPP) in this specialty area.
  • Professional Psychology Licensure: Must hold a full, current and unrestricted license to practice Psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the US, or the District of Columbia.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Citizenship: C itizen of the United States . (Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in acc! ordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g, this part.)

Education: Have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.

AND

Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA.

Licensure: Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral

level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia .

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
GS-12. In addition to the basic requirements ast the GS-11 level, at least 1 year of experience as a professional psychologist equivalent to the next lower grade level. Individuals assigned as GS 12 psychologists may be in the process ! of obtaining licensure at the independent practice level. If unlicensed! , the individual must be supervised by a licensed psychologist and the experience and supervision must meet the standars for psychology licensure.

GS-13. Licensure - You must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. Experience: In addition to the experience requirements at the GS-12 level, at least 1 additional year of experience as a psychologist equivalent to the next lower grade level.

You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position:

  • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, a wide range of professional psychological theories and assessment methods to a variety of patient populations.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skill base in behavioral medicine, providing brief i! ntervention and crisis management interventions as required. Has prior experience in evaluating clinical neuropsychological issues and demonstrates knowledge of the clinical literature related to this area.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skill base in clinical neuropsychology. Has prior experience in clinical neuropsychology and demonstrates knowledge of the clinical literature related to these specialties
  • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, advanced professional psychological theories and techniques to the full range of patient populations.
  • Ability to provide professional advice, consultation, and training in areas related to neuropsychology specifically and behavioral health broadly.
  • Advanced knowledge of clinical research literature.
  • Demonstrates ability to collaborate with others in the conduct of clinical research, program development and education of trainees and other healthcare professionals.
