Principal Responsibilities:
1. Conduct evaluation and screening activities including examining medical records and patient history.

2. Recommend subject's appropriateness for clinical trials by evaluating medical histories, diagnostic tests and visible disorders.

3. Interview potential study subjects or their surrogates as part of the screening process to obtain information pertaining to medical/social history, demographics and socioeconomic situation.

4. Assist the PI in obtaining consent for subject participation, and educates subjects about the study objectives, risks, and benefits.

5. Randomize subjects using interactive voice response systems, when applicable.

6. Perform clinical tests such as phlebotomy, electrocardiograms, urine collection, and standardized clinical assessment tools.

7. Collect and maintain study data, and enters data in forms/database as appropriate.

8. Assure all clinical trial procedures are completed as specified in the protocols, and file and/or submit study-related documents as per regulatory standards.

9. Optimize safety of research subjects which would include: monitoring research subjects for adverse events; reporting adverse events to PI/investigators and implementing their recommendations; providing bedside nursing staff with information about drug administration, drug administration supplies/requirements (including prohibited co-medications), the safety profile of the drug and contact numbers of research team; assisting the PI in educating hospital staff about the study requirements; and communicating with the Investigational Drug Service pharmacy to ensure safe dosing.

10. Develop policies and procedures to improve day to day efficiency of the studies.

11. Assist in writing and editing protocols for University research committees, such as preparing new HIC protocol submission forms, consent and research authorization forms, HIC amendments and re-approval forms.

Job Summary:
Under the direction of Principle Investigators from the Yale Pulmonary and Critical Care Section, assist with both industry sponsored and investigator initiated research in critical care.

Requirements:
Required Education and Experience:
1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing and four years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Education and Experience:
1. Registered RN license in the State of Connecticut.

Preferred:
2. Proficiency with Microsoft Access.

Skills & Abilities:
1. Well developed interviewing and assessment skills.

2. Well developed oral and written communication, organizational, and planning skills.

3. Excellent analytical skills.

4. Ability to work independently as well as in a multidisciplinary team.

5. Demonstrated ability to be flexible and able to work within a complex and evolving organizational structure.

6. Ability to be trained in use of electronic medical record system.

7. Strong computer skills to facilitate use of database for entry, reporting to pharmaceutical companies, developing protocol for submission to HIC. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel expected.
